During the three days of the Ambermart 2008 International Amber Fair, more than 3,000 visitors from 34 countries visited 132 exhibitors from Poland, Lithuania and Malta. The business visitors were predominantly customers from Poland, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the USA.

During the opening ceremony, prizes were presented in the Ambermart Gallery 2008 Online Competition. The voting took place from 4 to 25 August, with the most votes going to a set of jewellery entered by Maria Zawadzka’s Amber Gems company. Honourable mentions went to Jacek Ostrowski for his amber-decorated silver watch and Agata Całka for her silver and amber necklace.

Special attention was also due to the extraordinary jewellery and fashion show which took place at the Amber Museum. Celebrated Gdańsk jewellery designer Paulina Binek joined forces with Maria Joanna Mierzejewska to create a show entitled Avant-Garde Ambassadors. This title referred to renowned ladies from Gdańsk, ambassadors and lovers of amber, including Magdalena Adamowicz, Magdalena Kunicka and Ewa Rachoń.

The first day of the Fair also saw the première of Top Amber, a coffee-table book dedicated to contemporary amber design and contemporary amber art. The album collects and presents the work of artists from Poland and abroad who took part in designer competitions in Gdańsk, Warsaw and Legnica.
